Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 October 2026
NotchAbove has no account and no tracking inside the app. Your notes, todos, clipboard, screen time and habits stay on your Mac. A feature only goes online if you use it, and only to the one service it needs. The website uses Google Analytics to count visits.
Who we are
NotchAbove is a macOS app made by an independent developer. Contact: sharmancm11@gmail.com.
What stays on your Mac
Everything you create or that the app measures is stored only on your Mac (in the app's own folder, its settings, and the macOS Keychain for secrets). We never receive it:
- Your audio devices, volumes, scenes, hotkeys and settings.
- Notes, todos, clipboard history, files you put on the Shelf (we keep a reference, never a copy we send anywhere).
- Screen time, eye-break and focus history, your pet's progress.
- Calendar events (read on your Mac to show your next meeting).
- Coding-agent activity and usage limits (read from files those tools already keep on your Mac).
- Your Git repositories (read with your own
git).
What goes online, and only when
| Feature | Goes to | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| License | Dodo Payments | Your license key, to activate and validate it. Works offline after the first check. |
| Updates | notchabove.xyz | A request for the update feed (your app version). No personal data. |
| Lyrics (off by default) | lrclib.net | The song's title, artist, album and length, only while lyrics are on. |
| Album art | Spotify's image servers | A request for the cover image of the song that's playing. |
| Weather | MET Norway | The location of the city you chose. |
| Currency in Tools | frankfurter.dev (ECB rates) | A request for exchange rates, at most twice a day. Nothing about you. |
| Git tab (optional) | GitHub | Only if you connect it: your own GitHub login is used to read your pull requests and to push or pull when you tap. |
| Sales tab (optional) | Dodo Payments | Only if you add your own read-only API key, to read your own sales. |
Keys and tokens you give the app (license, GitHub token, Dodo API key) are stored in the macOS Keychain and sent only to the service they belong to.
macOS permissions
Switching audio needs no permissions. Some optional features need one, and macOS asks only when you turn that feature on: Automation (Now Playing from Music and Spotify), Calendar (next meeting), System audio (per-app volume), Accessibility (window snapping), Bluetooth (one-tap AirPods), Camera (camera check). Nothing from these is recorded or sent to us.
Buying NotchAbove
Checkout is run by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. They collect what's needed to take payment (such as your email, country and payment method) and send you your license key. We see the order details (for example the product, price, country and email) so we can support you and issue refunds. We never see your full payment details. A count of founder copies sold is kept on our server to show how many are left; it holds no personal data. See Dodo Payments' privacy policy.
The website
notchabove.xyz uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which parts of the page people use (for example, when a Buy button is clicked). It uses cookies and collects standard browser information. You can block it with any content blocker or Google's opt-out add-on, and the site keeps working. The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you (normally just your order through Dodo Payments), ask us to correct or delete it, or ask any question at all: sharmancm11@gmail.com. Data on your Mac is yours: deleting the app and its folder removes it.
Children
NotchAbove isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, this page and its date are updated. We don't have a mailing list, so we won't email you about it.
